Distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara was the President of the Nigerian Senate in 2003. He was in the Senate between 1999 and 2007. He held several offices in the Senate including:

  • Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence (1999 – 2000)
  • Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs (2000 – 2001)
  • Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Commerce (2001 – 2003)
  • Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Steel & Methodology (2001 – 2003)
  • Executive Chairman, Ukwa East Local Government Area (1997 – 1998)
  • Executive Chairman, Ukwa East Local Government Area (1996 – 1997)
  • Supervisory Councilor for Education, Ukwa East LGA (1994 – 1995)

He was a member of the House of Representatives between 1992 and 1993 during which he served as the Chairman, Foreign Affairs Sub – Committee on Asia and the Pacific Regions (1992 – 1993) and was on the Federal Government National Assembly lobbying team to the United States Government, US Congress, and the Black Congress Caucus (1993).

He had served as External Affairs Officer, Federal Ministry of External Affairs (1977 – 1984), Political Desk Officer, Nigeria High Commission, London (1978 – 1979), Protocol Officer, Nigeria High Commission, London (1980 – 1981), Education Officer, Nigeria High Commission, London (1981 – 1982), Head of Chancery, Nigeria Embassy Ndjamena (Chad Republic) (1982 – 1984).

Senator Wabara is the Chairman, Altitude Micro Finance Bank, Lagos, Chairman,

E-Lloyds Bureau De Change, Executive Director, Krabo Nig. Plc, Lagos (1989 – 1992), General Manager, Ibru Organization (Apapa Trawlers) (1985 – 1989), Managing Director, Danta Mills Nigeria Limited           (1984 – 1985).

The former Senate President attended Ladi-Lak Institute Yaba, Lagos (1954 – 1961), Methodist Boys’ High School, Broad Street, Lagos (1962 – 1966), Voronezh State University, Voronezh, C.I.S.(1970 – 1971), Kiev State University, Kietv, C.I.S.(1971 – 1976); and was a Research Officer at the Nigerian Institute of International Affair, Lagos, while on national service (1976 –1977). He had earlier served as a Store Examiner in the Ministry of Works and Housing (Civil Service) between 1967 and1970

His educational qualifications include West African School Certificate (WASC) (1966) G.C.E. “O/L” (1966), G.C.E. “A/L” (3 Papers at a Sitting) (1967), Post-Graduate Diploma in Russian Language (1976) and M.A. (Hons) International Relations (1976).

Senator Wabara is a Member, Institute of Public Relations London (1981), Justice of Peace      (1998), Honorary Doctorate Degree, Federal University of Science and Technology, Owerri            (2004).

He speaks English, Igbo, Yoruba, Russian and French.
