Sir Olaniwun Ajayi was born on April 8, 1925. He was educated at the Wesley College, Ibadan (1946-1949) where he obtained the Teachers Grade II Certificate; City of London College, Moorgate, London (1957-1959) for the Chartered Secretaryship (ACIS); London School of Economics and Political Science (1959- 1962) for his LL.B in Law; Council of Legal Education, Lincoln’s Inn (1959 – 1962) for the BL certification and called to the English Bar in July 1962.

Sir Ajayi was a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators as well as Member, Nigeria Bar Association
He served as a member of the Action Group between 1958 and1966; was a member of the Unity Party of Nigeria between 1978 and 1983. He served as the Commissioner for Education in the Old Western Region (now Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo States) 1971- 1973; and later Commissioner for Health.

Among others he was also:
• Revenue Appeal Commissioner, Federal Board of Internal Revenue 1975- 1979
• Chairman, Great Nigeria Insurance Company Limited 1980- 1983
• Member, National Democratic Coalition (NADECO)
• A Leader of Afenifere, a pan Yoruba political and cultural organization
• Chieftain of Alliance for Democracy(AD)
• Chieftain of Democratic People Alliance (DPA)

• Admitted to the Nigerian Bar by the Supreme Court of Nigeria Nov. 1962 Barrister-at-Law, Solicitor & Advocate
• United African Company Limited (UAC) 1963-1969) as Group Assistant Legal Adviser
• Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria September 1975
• OlaniwunAjayi& Co Legal Practitioners: 1962-date as Founder & Managing Partner (Retired)
• He was a member of the 2014 National Conference

He died in Lagos on Friday, November 4, 2016
